| | scared | ] | I worked till midnight yesterday but still have nothing to show for it! I'm having the toughest time with my drawing final, everything I do is simply not working. I plan to work for about five hours today and HOPEFULLY I'll have something by the end of the day to show for it. I also need to do my illustration final, which I might work on later tonight, if my drawing final is going well. -_-''
Other than that though, Im doing really well. Im hanging out with Hannah and Ben a lot, and they are sooo much fun. We went to a comic convention yesterday and it was pretty nerdy, but fun.
I'm also addicted to Bubble Teas, and I really hope they have some in Alaska somewhere by the time I get back in the summer. I think Ashley would like them too (they have squishy chewy things on the bottom! like in Ichibon's chewy soup but smaller and sweeter and yummyish!)
I've been spending a lot of money recently and eating out a lot. But I blame the fact I havent eaten out much and the fact I'm leaving Minneapolis soon as an excuse to try all the resteraunts i can.
yeah. thats all. I'll be in fairbanks on the 9th! whoooo!!! |

I'm sure most everyone has read this in some other form or an email but Im just covering all my bases :)
Im walking the MS walk May 6th and thought some of you guys might be interested in hearing about it or even donating. As most of you know, my mom has MS but she's not the only one. Every hour of every day, someone is diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. That's why I registered for the 2007 Christopher & Banks MS Walk presented by Anchor Bank and that's why I'm asking you to support my fund raising efforts with a tax-deductible donation.
check out: http://www.nationalmssociety.org/site/TRpx=3133573&pg=personal&fr_id=4481
this is my page i set up.
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is dedicated to ending the devastating effects of MS but they can't do it without our help. It's faster and easier than ever to support this cause that's so important to me. Simply click on the link at the bottom of this message. If you prefer, you can send your contribution to the address listed below.
Any amount, great or small, helps to make a difference in the lives of people with MS. I appreciate your support and look forward to letting you know how I do.

| Im never going to graduate! |
[Apr. 18th, 2007|11:14 am] |
Well....
Thats not true. I am but I'll be hear for at least an extra semester but more likely an extra year. Uhg.
Oh the bright side, I do love MCAD. Its a wonderful mixture of pleasure and pain even if I get a little lonely at times. Going to an art school is so much better than I actually imagined it to be. I learned more in my Drawing One here (just so you know, its actully the third required drawing class for me but I didnt have to take Foundation drawing one or two due to transfer credits!) than I did in all my drawing classes at UAF. Except in painting maybe. Well....I think I learned more in this MCAD class than in painting, but painting was a good introduction to drawing more than just what you see. Even the art history classes are great, including the one I keep falling asleep in. When Im awake I'm blown away by the information Im learning.
and the comic class is really good too. It started slow (learning about the Z formation in comics, something I really have no desire to reproduce) but it got better. We got to create our own projects for the final and everyone liked my ideas. The teacher thought they were "Comic 3 worthy" (thats the top comic class at MCAD). Anyways, hopefully my project will turn out really good and I can put it in the art show Jamie Smith is putting togeather in the summer. MAYBE even make a book out of it and try to sell a couple copies. :D This is me just being really hopeful. heh.
If it actually happens though, Im gonna give most of my buddies free copies, dont worry.
I think Im becomming a little bit of an art snob, against trying not to be...Im not nearly at the point a lot of people are here (being Art SNOBS) but I can feel it happening. :( heh, there was an art show here (I love how MCAD constantly has new art going up each week! :D) and Jenny and her buddy were discussing how they would never buy this womans art and it got kinda annoying. If money wasnt an issue, i think I'd seriously buy everyones art. Besides, this person used wax and it smelled really good. :) Anyways, I guess Im understanding all these concepts and new ideas and can finally understand how a still life can relate to mortality and interesting stuff like that. :D
yeaaaahhh. Okay! Update over and out! :D |

So...I love school and all but Im SO PISSED OF AT THIS PRINTER!! I've been working on printing this stupid tissuebox which sucks in the first place despite all the time I spent on it. The people on it are this fleshy pink and they print out a greenish sickly grey. UHG. And the woman helping me (whos nice AND comes from Alaska-WEIRD) doesnt know whats wrong. Its due tomorrow at one and....oy vey. I will be soooo angry if I failed this project or something because I worked my butt off on it (it just doesnt look that good scanned).

um Friday I joined Hannah and her gang of friends for Mexican Night at the MCAD Film club! free mexican food--WHOOP! And today I joined Jenny for an Anti-War rally, where over 1000 people joined us. Pretty darn sweet. Someone gave me a poster and it was a pretty nice (albiet long) walk. The crowd pretty much took up half the road so there were people who acted as traffic guards for the cars. At one point, I guess the man was either angry at the protesters or angry that he couldnt turn the way he wanted too and started to drive forward really fast for the crowd (where I and maybe 50 other people were). Anyways, the traffic guard had to jump infront of the car to make it screech to a stop and hold him back from running into us. It was scary and weird. The man in the car then procceded to spit at the man blocking him from us. bleh.
At the end there was a rally and speakers who were really really good and we stayed as long as we could before it got to cold and we had to head back to the car.
Even though I finished no homework, I would call this a productive day. :) Im so lucky to have a cool and smart roommate whos not stuck-up. :D
I spent this whole weekend finishing a 6 page comic for...fun....(WHY??!! What a waste of time!! gah! Poop! POOOOOOOP!). uhg. anyway, it was a big waste of time and I dont know what i was thinking. I did turn it into the Comic Head submissions even though theres no way it'll make it in.
oh wells. Im a comic major...I better get used to rejection. >.>''
And now Im working on my art history homework...we'll see how I do. I have an A in the class Im sure so Im not too worried about the grade I get on this test but lately this subject has been in one ear and out the other. >.< I think its because we've been focusing on architecture and it doesnt really hold my attention at all. That and Im having a hard time remembering the names for some of the works. ohhhboy.
i did go shopping today and got some much needed deoderant, which Im sure Jenny appriciates.
heres a question: what kind of art/colors/designs would YOU like to see on a tissue box? hmmm?

so, Ive been having a lot of fun recently at MCAD. I got an A on my comic homework, and found out I have a B in my other two studio classes and probably an A in my art history class and probably a B in my other class. Good grades are good. :) Now I just have to keep these grades up......eeehhhhh.
anyways, Friday I went to the MCAD art opening then hung out with my buddy Hannah and made some delish chicken salad. And we watched some show the National Geographic put out about martial arts and how it really effects the body. That show was really cool....
Yesterday I did homework and cleaned the kitchen (yay!). I went with Jenny to see a movie about doctor in Cuba and it was really interesting! AND it was in this fun little coffee shop! I've had a lot of coffee recently...I should take a break this week. The weather is so nice out! I like walking around but there arnt too amny destinations I can go to where I dont need to spend any money. Jenny and I met with some of her other friends and went to First Avenue (my first time) to this dance party thing called Too Much Love. It apparently happens every saterday and was lots of fun! Mostly techoish/houseish music but not the real annoying kind. So yes, I danced till the wee hours of the morning and then came back to my apartemtn and crashed at four am. UHG. I am so sore today! This was the first real physical workout Ive done since I got here (pathetic! I know!). My hips, shoulders, back and neck are really sore, along with my knees, which makes me worried. Now its noon (thanks daylight savings!) and I should really get crackin on showering and such stuff. I need to finish my homework and go shopping at some point today. At least I think I'll actully enjoy my homework assignments this week! :) |

| | nervous | ] | I dont want to go to my next class..uhhhgggg.....
Im behind but I dont really understand how it got that way...we had to re-do a project and she said it'd be due in a couple of weeks, and I found out yesterday that its due today...I would have liked some more warning, but whatever. AND I missed the last class project and homework cause of Mardi Gras, so I'll try to redo it for next week but I'll get low grades because they're late.
I hate foundation courses....grrrrrr....
my other classes are going pretty well. The only homework I have tonight is matting some work...and if my foundations class doesnt make me feel like crap, then I might be going to the Matt Hopper show...if Im old enough to enter the bar.
or i might just do my homework and mope about. :( thats more likely..... |

| Sooo.... |
[Feb. 15th, 2007|05:29 pm] |
Did I mention I was going to Mardi Gras? Cause I am!! WHOOOO!!!!
Im getting pretty excited! :D
whee!!
Im doing okay otherwise, school is school and is often stressfull. Im getting a better feel for the neighborhood, although it is still too cold to walk very far and too cheap to eat out a lot. I saw Pans Laberinth (sp?) which was pretty darn sweet. I was curled up in a bal the whole time! If you get the chance, go watch it.
and I really dont have much else to say... |

| | nervous | ] | So...yes. I havent posted in a long time, so I mgiht as well do it now.
Im in Minneapolis, attending MCAD and kinda enjoying it. I cant tell if I am or not. Its probably somewhere in the middle. My classes are good, they make me think and realize all kinds of new information about art. But, just because they're good doesnt mean I enjoy them. My pbservational drawing class is by far the hardest and least enjoyable. Im thinking that an A for a class like this at UAF would probably account for a C or something here. So I feel pretty inadequate in the class, and kinda foolish for even being there. The teacher's pretty harsh too, so that doesnt help. Thankfully its only once a week--but the class is 6 hours long!
We have a critique tomorrow on a piece we were supossed to work 5 hours on. which I did, but I still feel its lacking but if I mess with it more, it'll turn out even crappiers. boo. I think I can just brace myself and take it tomorrow, its not like Im that attached to it. >.>
lets see, my other studio classes (illustraton and comic one) are pretty good. Illustration might be kind of tough because we have to do all our work in class (for instance, this week 7 illustrations from scratch in 6 hours...uhg!) but the homework s pretty easy. and my comic class is REALLY interesting, and fairly enjoyable at the same time.
other then the studio classes, i just have two art histpry classes, that are pretty good.
le'see...OH YEAH! art supplies are EXPENSIVE!!!! SooooSoSoSoooo much money! I have to find a cheap brush for tomrrows class but the art store only has good ones...poop.
my roommate is nice :) she owns lots of pretty things that Im going to try and not get paint/charcoal/ink on. We'll see how that goes.
Thats it really, I've been reading and plaing Zelda a lot. theres not a lot on campus and Im not keen on walking around at night, seeing as theres a high crime rate in this neighborhood. Lots of good food only a couple blocks up, but Im going to have to meet people who like eating out and ethnic food and so far I've met no one of the sort. I should save money and just eat my mac n cheese anyways. :*(
if you want my address, just let me know and I'll give it to you!! I think most people have it, but maybe not...
thats all i think! I hope everyone is doing well! :D --Anna |

| | hopeful | ] | Soo...some updates...
I have two (TWO!) art pieces in the student show this year! Im really excited cause this is the first year I've gotten in! One is a 3d piece and the other is a painting! Everyone is welcome to stop by during the opening at 5-8or9 on Thursday! This is the UAF gallery in the fine arts complex, connected to the Great Hall! It should be up for a week or so so if you cant make it, you should still peek in there some time! :D I'll be there at 5 till 7ish Thursday. :)
Also my photo class will have our finals on display in the first floor of Bunnell from 6 to 7 on Friday! I have 5 photos up, all of Lhasa, Tibet. :) So far people seem to really like them. They're diffrent from the other photos I've taken this semester, grainy with lots of contrast and all taken at a high depth of field. Anyways, if your free during this time, stop by just to look at all the pretty photos and say hi to me cause I'll be there!
so yes! moving up in the art world!
anyways, I was tagged: Once tagged by this entry, the assignment is to write a blog entry of some kind with six random facts about yourself. Then, pick six of your friends and tag them; no tag backs. This explanation should be included
1. I have two pieces in the art show this year! HAHA!
2. I love giving people homemade gifts
3. I will never buy diamonds because people are raped, killed, and mutilated for them. I learned about this in high school and this year (this weekend actully...) the movie Blood Diamond comes out and tells the story of one particular area in Africa. Im sure its all Hollywood but Amnesty International supports the movie so it cant be to far from the truth. :) If anyone wants to see it with me, lemme know!
4. I probably have a lingere fetish or something. Probably not a fetish, just a strong like.
5. Im still seriously thinking of dredlocks or at least shopping my hair off to avoid combing it
6. Its been four days since I showered (eeeewww! groooossss!)
1.Spencer 2. Ashley (cause it takes two taggs to get her to do something like this!) 3. James 4. Julie 5. Olga. If she still reads this....I keep thinking about you but I just dont call you!!!!!! SORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRYYYYYY!!! 6. whoever wants to.
Who wants to go Xmas shopping with me soon!?!
EDIT:::::::One of my pieces won Jurors Choice!! how neat! |

| | sad | ] | CHINA: RELEASE THE NANGPA PASS DETAINEES NOW
On September 30, 2006 Chinese forces opened fire on a group of approximately 70 Tibetan refugees attempting to escape Tibet through the Nangpa Pass into Nepal. Video footage captured by mountaineers from nearby Cho Oyu advanced Everest base camp show Chinese border patrol guards aiming and firing at the line of defenseless Tibetans. Kelsang Namtso, a seventeen year old nun, was shot dead, and at least one other person is feared to have been killed in the attack. 32 Tibetans from the group, including 14 children are reported to have been detained by the border patrol; their whereabouts remains unknown. Despite the widespread media attention and foreign diplomatic pressure, China continues to defend the shootings and refuses to conduct an independent investigation into the incident.
China: Would You Shoot Me Too? If Chinese soldiers can get away with shooting at innocent children, some of whom are as young as 7 years old, how far will they go? Would they shoot anyone who chooses freedom over oppression? November 30, 2006 marks the 2 month anniversary of the Nangpa Pass shootings and Tibetans and their supporters are taking action worldwide to pressure China to release the detainees.

More information and ideas on how you can help free the Nangpa Pass Detainees are available at: www.studentsforafreetibet.org/nangpapass
go to the website and submit a photo! I plan to do it tonight! (comeon, if you have a digital camera it'll only take like a minute!) This makes me very sad. :( |

| | disappointed | ] | sooo
weekend was pretty darn great!
I was able to hang out with lots of people (including quality time with rick and ashley!) and took a whole roll of film of Kara! Im excited cause she's so pretty and I captured her on film! XD
yesterday I was reminded about how typical someone was and I was dissapointed. Because it was an act where acting typical would be something I'd scoff at and even like someone less for (I cant help it!). anyway, its now in a movie which all will see and I'll be left being annoyed and angry and just end up being pissed off at the typical male and be dissapointed because the typical male in question is someone I really like and who I thought was less typical than I guess he really is. or something.
YAY for long run on sentances that make little sense!
YAY for all my visiting girlfriends! Im so sorry we didnt hang out more Julie! :*( Im so sad....

So I had a pretty good weekend. On Friday I actully cant remember what I did. huh. It probably consisted of hanging out with Rick though, so it was fun. On saterday I filled my day with chores and the evening with Ashley (yay!) We tried to go to the free dance but it was cancelled (still wish we could have been informed ahead of time....) So instead we decided to waste our time dressing up and attending another dance that should have only cost 2 dollars. Ashley let me borrow her blue wig to match my orange dress (whee!) and she did my makeup all cool! and ashley put some stuff near her eyes that she probably shouldnt have.... anywho. the dance was actully 8 dollars (GAH! EXPENSIVE!) and since Rick already paid, I did too and Ashley opted not to. Which is probably for the better cause it was all rap. We left maybe at midnight or 12:30 and they were just started to play electronica/techno. which is only a little bit better..... yeah.
and I saw Betty lavelle (sp?) yesterday, which was nice. she's pretty hoppin' for a 60 year old. XD
and tonight Im finishing up my painting, and making a contact sheet for my photos, and eating at home, and I dont know what else. I need to start on my next photo assignment: a self portrait and a portrait of a friend. Im not worried at all about the portriat of a friend, that'll turn out cool no matter what. but Im a little lost for the self portrait. >.>'' anyway! back to work *cough*read manga *cough* |
